Quelques mois auparavant j’avais craqué pour un set de broderie machine, acheté et téléchargé sur Internet : une ménagerie de cirque transportée dans des petits wagons. Je n’avais pas encore eu l’occasion d’essayer ces motifs. D’un autre côté, je disposais aussi d’un très beau motif de clown en appliqué.		A few months earlier, I had fallen for a machine embroidery set, purchased and downloaded on the Internet: a circus menagerie transported in small cars. I didn’t had the opportunity to try these designs yet. Furthermore, I had also got a beautiful clown applique pattern.
Ainsi décidé, mon projet évoquera le cirque.		Thus decided, my project will remind the circus.
Nous disons donc, un tour de lit constitué de trois panneaux représentant les animaux du cirque dans leur wagonnet, et une couverture avec un ou deux clowns jonglant. La parure de lit pourra s’adapter à un lit de 60/120 cm ou 70/140 cm.		Therefore, we say a cot bumper made of three panels depicting circus animals in their trolley, and a baby quilt with one or two juggling clowns. The bed set will fit a bed of 60/120 or 70/140 cm.
Le cahier des charges des parents était : sobriété, du blanc du bleu… pas de couleurs vives. Je n’ai pas totalement respecté ces prescriptions ; les motifs étant tellement chargés en détails, j’ai dû sélectionner beaucoup de couleurs de fils différentes, parfois vives. Mais je me suis appliquée à rester dans les bleus, turquoises, verts très clairs, bruns et gris. Le tout brodé sur une percale blanche.		The specifications of the parents were: sobriety, white, blue ... no bright colors. I didn’t fully comply with these requirements; the designs were so overloaded with details that I had to select many different thread colors, sometimes bright. Nevertheless, I applied myself to stay in blue, turquoise, very light green, brown and gray. All on a white percale.
Pour le tour de lit, chacun des trois panneaux a nécessité plus ou moins quatre-vingt changements de couleur de fils, ce qui a allongé considérablement le temps de réalisation de la broderie. Environ trois heures ont été nécessaires pour la réalisation des broderies d’un seul panneau. Le déroulement des opérations d’une broderie machine est décrit dans le premier article de la rubrique « Borderie ».		For the cot bumper, each panel needed about eighty thread color changes, which significantly lengthened the time for embroidery. About three hours were needed to achieve the embroidery for one single panel. The processes of machine embroidery development are described in the first article of the “Embroidery” section.
Il y a quelque chose de magique à regarder la borderie s’exécuter toute seule. On s’émerveille au fur et à mesure que l’on découvre le motif apparaître. Celui-ci est d’une parfaite qualité, aucun défaut à signaler.		There is something magical about watching the embroidery running alone. It is fascinated to discover the design appearing. This one is a perfect quality, no defect.
L’étape suivante a consisté à intercaler des bandes de tissu imprimé entre chacun des panneaux, ceci pour rythmer la percale blanche, puis à assembler toutes les parties ensemble.		The next step was to insert strips of printed fabric between each panel; this gives tempo to the white percale, then I gathered all the parts together.
J’ai ensuite apposé de très fins (3 mm) rubans de velours destinés à attacher le tour de lit au lit.		Afterwards, I sewed a very thin (3mm) velvet ribbons for fastening the cot bumper to bed
Le top est prêt, il faut maintenant le matelasser. Auparavant, j’ai cousu une bande de percale blanche sur toute la longueur et la largeur du top. J’ai intercalé entre les deux pièces de tissu une épaisseur de ouatine destinée à rigidifier l’ouvrage. Puis j’ai retourné l’ensemble, coutures à l’intérieur. L’opération de matelassage est un piquage machine que j’ai pratiquée en suivant les coutures des bandes de tissu imprimé. Voilà, le tour de lit est terminé !		Now, the top is ready to be quilted. Previously, I sewed a white percale band over the entire length and width of the top. I inserted a thick fleece between the two pieces of fabric in order to rigidify the work. Then I returned all the sewn pieces, seams inside. The padding operation is a machine quilting, I followed the strips seams of the printed fabric. Here, the cot bumper is finished!
Passons à présent à la couverture de lit de bébé. Une broderie centrale : deux clowns se faisant face et jonglant ensemble. Un même motif de broderie en « appliqué », en miroir horizontal, réalisé avec des tissus différents donnera l’illusion de deux motifs dissemblables, plus quelques balles ajoutées à l’aide du logiciel de borderie. Puis, insertion de bandes de tissu imprimé, horizontales et verticales, destinées à encadrer et animer le médaillon central.		We now go ahead with the crib blanket. An embroidery design at the center: two clowns juggling facing together. A same applique embroidery pattern in a horizontal mirror, made with different fabrics, will give the illusion of two dissimilar patterns; some more balls added with the embroidery software. Then, I inserted strips of printed fabric, horizontal and vertical, chosen for framing and animating the central medallion.
Vient maintenant à nouveau l’opération de matelassage, le « quilting ». Pour plus de détail, se reporter au premier article de la rubrique « Patchwork et Quilting ». J’ai choisi de disposer deux couches molleton de soie 100 % entre le top et la doublure de ce quilt ; afin de lui conférer légèreté, douceur et chaleur.		Now the padding operation is coming again, the "quilting". For more details, refer to the first article of the "Patchwork and Quilting". I chose to put two layers of 100% silk fleece between the top and the quilt lining, in order to give it lightness, softness and warmth.

Le quilting est réalisé uniquement autour du médaillon central, en suivant les lignes tracées au stylo « magique » (effaçable à l’air).		The quilting is made only around the central medallion, following the lines drawn with the "magical" pen (air erasable).
Enfin, le « binding » termine le travail : une bande de tissu imprimé placé à cheval sur les trois épaisseurs de textiles, piquée à la machine côté top et finition « cousue main » côté doublure.		Finally, the "binding" is finishing the work: a strip of a printed fabric is placed astride the three textile layers; on the top side it is machine sewn and hand sewn on the back side.
Quelques heures plus tard, voici l’ouvrage terminé.		A few hours later, here is the finished work.
Aujourd’hui Pipounet a exactement un an. C’est un magnifique bébé, sage et toujours souriant, au regard à la fois candide et espiègle, qui fait craquer toute la famille ! Bon anniversaire Pipounet !		Today Pipounet is exactly one year. He is a wonderful baby, wise and always smiling, with both innocent and cheeky eyes; the whole family has fallen in love with him! Happy birthday Pipounet!
